Valley Championship #7 for the Blue Raider Football Team

Congratulations to the Blue Raider Football Team for their success this far in the 2019 season.  Caruthers High School has a tradition of football success with our 1st Valley Championship in 1979, and on November 29th, 2019, the Blue Raiders won their 7th Section Title!

The Blue Raiders started their season with an opening loss against the Templeton High School which was the #1 in D4 at the time.  Since that opening week setback, the Caruthers Blue Raiders won their next 9 games, winning a League Championship for the 3rd straight year, and earning the #1 seed in the Division Playoffs.

In the opening round of the playoffs, the Horned Toads of Coalinga came to Anderson Field, and after a sluggish start, the Blue Raiders came out of halftime, and the outcome of the game was not in question after that.  Caruthers won that game 27 - 7.  In the 2nd round, the Immanuel Eagles took their best shot at the #1 seed Caruthers, however came up short in a 43 - 7 triumph for Blue Raiders.

The semi - final was a matchup between #3 seeded 2018 State Champion and 3 time defending D6 Champion, Strathmore High School.  Caruthers came out ready to play and a very tightly contested game followed.  The Blue Raiders went into halftime 21 - 7 lead.  Strathmore came out in the 3rd quarter and tied the game at 21 at the end of the 3rd.  A huge 2 point conversion was made on the Blue Raider touchdown early in the 4th quarter.  Blue Raiders went up 29 - 21, a Strathmore TD and missed 2 - pt conversion made the game 29 - 27 mid way through the 4th.  A late touchdown for Caruthers sealed the victory 37 - 27, and an appearance in the Valley Championship game.Caruthers Team Photo

The Division 5 Valley Championship game set up a matchup between Division 5 traditional powers with the Broncos of Dos Palos making the ride to Caruthers.  Historically, the Blue Raiders won their 1st Valley Championship in 1979 over the Broncos, and 40 years later, the latest matchup was epic.  WHAT A BALL GAME!!!  Caruthers scored early, missing a n extra point.  The Broncos went down the field and answered with a touchdown and took a 7 - 6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  A dominant 2nd quarter for the Blue Raiders stretched the lead to 19 - 7 at halftime.  DP had a touchdown in the 3rd quarter and were down 19 - 14 at the end of the 3rd.  4th quarter was a showdown.  Dos Palos tied the game midway through the 4th quarter with a touchdown and 2 - point conversion.  Caruthers responded with a 2 minute drive to end the game and with 14 seconds left, Bobby Staley had a rushing touchdown and the Blue Raiders converted on a 2 - point conversion for the final score 27 - 22!  This is the 7th Valley Championship in school history!

Caruthers has been selected to host the Division 5A Northern Regional Championship Bowl Game on Saturday - December 8th.  Game Time is 6:00pm.  More information will follow, and look for State Information when the link is available.
